03/18 – 03/25 (#FF117)

Still Motion

With the beginning of this week, spring has finally arrived (calendar-wise, but really weather-wise). The winter season is officially over.

Before the avalanches of questions come to us, we’d like to say it for ourselves that we’re in a low activity mode, since probably around a couple of months.

It’s not that we find it boring to continue this website (which is a lot of fun, trust us). It’s just the mere fact that both of us are in the final stages of getting our degrees.

The time that was primarily dedicated to going on aural ventures goes into study-time, which will end around the upcoming summer.

Yet, we’re not here to talk about the weather or any time issues we’re currently encountering. Moreover, we’d like to talk about these 5 tracks that we put together to sugar-coat your start in the week.

So, this week goes into the darky yet soothy Alt Pop & R&B direction with a pinch of jazz vibes:

Ajgor & OLFVN – About You

The first track on the cue is called About You. And it’s kinda nostalgic because we cannot remember ourselves where we did not talk about this talented musician and of course, his colleagues.

The reason behind it is simple – Ajgor does know how to maintain a high level of output. And even after years already, Igor knows how to surprise us. This time, he sent us with About You a sneak peak of his anticipated collaboration long play with his friend, and beatmaker OLFVN:

By pressing the play button, the immediate second after, you’re going to be stuck in the middle of trenchant percussions fused with crispy drums, which are surrounded by atmospheric vocals that go right into your soul.

A lovely record to announce an album that is (hopefully?) already finished. If you haven’t followed Ajgor or OLFVN yet, make sure to do that now!

Amaal – Coming and Going

Next track on the list is by one of our recent discoveries (thanks to a lovely recommendation) that makes us put a smile on our face, whenever we’re listening to a track by her.

Being based in Toronto, it’s a pleasure to welcome Amaal back to another Flamboyant Five-episode. This time, we had the opportunity to check out her latest oeuvre, named Coming and Going:

The creation starts with a reminiscent vocal chop that engulfs your surroundings until the lovely Amaal starts to chime in. With a pinch of bass combined with a drum composition, the track starts to become sound heavier and punchier from second after second.

And right after you already start to adapt to the low bass frequencies, there comes another transition to the aural state that was surpassing your body before.

Indeed, a lovely Jazz, Soul & R&B amalgamation to listen to. If you haven’t had the chance to stumble over Amaal, do that now, stumble over her site and check out the lovely releases.

Emerson – Bad Drugs

Have you heard any track by this promising artist, we stumbled over just moments ago? No, then, we’re happy that you’re experiencing the same amount of flabbergasted-ness right now:

Listening to the sticky flow makes you think why it took so much time to stumble over the gifted artisan, called Emerson.

Whether if we would accentuate the rhymes or the impeccably set vocal chops that are following the drums and the percussion for your pleasure into your ears, it’s the whole track and its concept that brings up minutes of awe fused with unstoppable nodding of your head to the rhythm.

A soul-touching piece that we have encountered here, a gargantuan amount of Thank You’s towards the musician for alleviating our afternoon.

Make sure to press follow, share the track with your loved ones and be aware that there is more to come. We’ll keep you updated, that’s a pinky promise.

Arlo – Changing (Feat. Mick Jenkins)

What a lovely collaboration to put on this list. Indeed, it was an instant decision that made us add Changing, an art collision between London-based Arlo and Chicago resident Mick Jenkins, in this week’s playlist.

But why? Well, let the audio speak for itself:

Starting with a lovely melo composition, the voice of Arlo chimes in, panning from one ear to another, followed by the ubiquitous dancehall-ish kicks & drums.

Seconds after, there is already the sticky bridge that will guide us to the second chorus. This is also the moment, where you kinda get the feeling that the bass line powers up a bit to accentuate its punchiness.

And right after you think there comes the outro, Jenkins appears with his solipsistic way to convey words that stay in your mind.

With this promising track, we’re looking forward to future art collisions between these two musicians. Thank you for the lovely composition!

Notelle – Power

Last track for today and we’re already getting shivers, seconds after we pressed the play button. In our opinion, it’s a specific talent that you need to trigger emotions instantly after the moment you start to perform a track.

And we’re kinda having this feeling right now with Power, a composition by Nashville-based Notelle:

The artist, who describes her music as “heavy messy pop”, tend to create an impact that will make you forget about your surroundings for 297 seconds. Whether if we would accentuate the lush and mesmerizing chord progression on the piano, the stunning and crystal clear voice additions by your’s truly, Notelle, it’s the power in Power that gives you a gargantuan amount of energy to go through your daily routine.

It’s more than a Pop-track, it’s a creation filled with deep & low frequencies which harmonize themselves with the higher frequencies in order to create a paragon of a release that definitely needs to be on your playlist on the go.

If you haven’t followed Notelle already, make sure to keep an eye on her upcoming updates towards music and life. We did that now!
