11/02 – 11/09 (#FF046)

#ff046: sedative sey

it’s monday again & we wish it would be already friday. it’s not because we hate this specific day, it’s just the fact that we might need more time to sleep. having a week full of work sometimes tend to be super-vexatious, yet we’re not going to nag about it. instead we let the music do some magical things. what makes you feel more comfortable than hearing a beautiful melody after a terrible day of duties, duties & duties? it’s like ‘being under sedation’. so let’s start with the equanimity & the playlist of the week, number forty-six…

1.Slum Village – Players (Maverick Soul Remix)

you might recognize the name ‘slum village’? maybe because of that outrageous ‘fall in love’-remix by moody good? or just because the fact that this hip hop group is well-known? all we have to say is ‘j dilla’. since years, the songs of the group has been remixed over & over again by tons of musicians, more bad than good. yet, as we always like to say, to go further, to look for the one remix that might be your jam, we’re happy that we stumbled over ‘maverick soul’s reinterpretation of ‘players’. ‘maverick’, an artist based from new haven, connecticut, is someone who definitely can say that he has been a true musician for years. whether you’re fan of downtempo music, combined with hip hop & jazz or just an aficionado of drum & bass, ‘maverick’s site might be the right one to pay attention. and while we were still flabbergasted by the rhythmic reinterpretation of the song, it was already over, so that we had to look for the replay-button. an applause for the new-haven man.

2.Kind – I wish Skype wouldn’t drop while we sleep

calvin, a person of one kind, is the next artist we’re going to talking about. based in san francisco, the person has been known under his producer-alias ‘kind’. while we checked his releases, we were impressed from release to release, so it was hard to pick one. so, we did what we had to do & picked the latest: ‘i wish skype wouldn’t drop while we sleep’. to talk about its song structure, is as simple as to find its real purpose/meaning. by producing he keeps on killing some time, to get finally back to his girlfriend & his dogs. the beat is decorated with a panoply of fx’s, the drums are impeccably set, the melody is catchy & melty. and while we were listening to the beat again, we wish that our computer wouldn’t stop working again (ugggh). so before we try to restart it, feel free to get on the artist page & start your looking-for-a-beat-trip.

3.Checks n Balances – Lunchbreak

‘lunchbreak’ is the next song on our list. written by ‘checks n balances’, a fifteen year old producer, the song got our attention by its lullabye-way-of-sounding. a lullabye created by the lush song-atmosphere, the mellifluous melo-composition & a variety of fx. and while we were perusing his account, we were impressed by the amount of releases from this young musician. to ‘genrefy’ him, we would say that he might be someone between experimental electronic, trap, hip hop & definitely ambient. ‘lunchbreak’ is only available on the ‘checks’ soundcloud-page, yet that does not mean that you shouldn’t take a look on this artist. thank you for the break, we’re definitely going to follow your path.

4.För Alltid – High (feat. Sarah de Warren)

you might remember the name ‘för alltid’? being featured on our newest addition, the peanut pile of freebies-series, we started to follow his evolvement. and while we were highly impressed by the high quality output we recently have seen, we immediately wanted to put this song on the list. this time he collaborated with the uk-based vocalist & song writer ‘sarah de warren’. the first time we heard the collab, we nearly dropped our jaws. a flawless piece of production, whether we’re talking about the magnificient melo-composition, the seraphic voice of sarah or the mesmerizing atmosphere created by the whole arrangement. we like to use the word ‘magic’ & that’s not even sounding ludicrous. sometimes, when you make something you get the feeling that it might be the right decision, even though you don’t know its aftermath. we honestly don’t know how they met, but we’re pretty happy that they did.

5.Tontario – Struck By You (Feat. Lucas Nord)

last song of today is ‘struck by you’. created by finnish producer ‘tontario’ in co-production with swedish musician ‘lucas nord’, it has been released on soundcloud some days ago. ‘struck by you’, a merger between ambient & downtempo is what is nowadays called a hybrid. a hybrid, due the fact of the fuse between genres, a new way of music with futuristic synths & a significant voice & some lush additional fxs. the song truely shows the potential of both, whether we’re talking about ‘tontarios’ level of production or ‘lucas nord’s evolvement as a vocalist. ‘struck by you’ is already stuck in our ears & it’ll be a challenge to get that kind of catchy melody out of them. give them a like, follow their sites & don’t forget to say ‘thanks’.
