10/12 – 10/19 (#FF044)

#ff044: #pithypalette

monday is back again and we’re on our business trip as usual: by perusing the ‘interwebz’ for tracks by jason, his neighbor or your uncle & present them on a pithy palette, or as you would say a playlist. we’re on the middle of october, halloween is knocking already on your door, many upcoming releases from the heads of the music scene are coming out, it is getting colder (in europe), etc. so, let us show you the spotted gems we did put on the playlist number forty-four…

1.Wandl – Done

‘done’ is the song we’d like to talk about. being produced by austrian beatmaker ‘wandl’, it’s quite overwhelming to see such a quality output from the country, where my beloved colleague comes from. it’s also a little bit funny, that he really did not remark its release, so i’m probably going to chastise him about it (hehe). wandl, a guy from a city named ‘st. pölten’, has made a name as an experimental hip hop, electronic producer that is definitely not on the peak of his evolvement. whether it is about a smooth hip hop instrumental, or the merger with a succinct voice, ‘done’ is a song to listen to while learning for a serious test, relaxing after a hard day or reminiscing about events of the past. a succinct & interesting piece of production from one guy to watch over. with a small amount of money, you can get your copy of ‘done’, or instead, get his ep ‘far way home’, either via bandcamp or itunes. be sure to give him a follow, repost & share some moments of your leisure.

2.Stwo – Eden (Monophobe Remix)

the next artist is an austrian too: ‘monophobe’, a 20 year old musician from the capital of austria, vienna, is what we can call ‘sound artist’. but why? well if you check his releases on his soundcloud site, you’ll get a feeling of why the usage of that term is so accurate: whether it is about creating mesmerizing melodies, tantalizing basslines or the deft symbiosis between analog & digital, max (that’s his real name) might be the right guy you looked for. as we have perused his discography, we were pretty uncomfortable with the decision to pick one specific tune to put on the list. that’s why we decided to put one song that fits in the aforementioned description about the artist. his reinterpretation of ‘eden’, a song by the paris-based beatmaker ‘stwo’, was finally our track to choose. by rearranging the sound structure, fuse the elements of ‘stwo’ with his, ‘monophobe’ created a song that has to be on your ipod, your computer or what kind of electronic device you might have. being available as a freebie makes it easier to get a copy from it, so be sure to get yours as soon as possible.

3.Kojo A. – Lay Low

kojo asamoah, better known under his alias ‘koyo a.’, is an us-based producer, whose path or better said, his account crossed ours. by stumbling through the panoply of releases on soundcloud or youtube, you’re going to get a feeling, which artists, labels or channels you have to check. honestly, we first did ‘ignore’ the information about this release, so please call it an ‘intuitional error’. we stumbled over it again & were happy that we stopped by to listen to it attentively. our reaction was something between a drool & an unstoppable grin. but why? well a reason might be the crisp arrangement around the sound design, the flawless symbiosis between the vox (of the singer ‘syl’) & the melody or basically the smooth-yet-energizing synth-composition, ‘lay low’ is a song that has to be mentioned here. a big shout-out to kojo & we’re definitely pleased to follow his path in the future.

4.Rage Logic – Zen

while we were previously talkin’ about releases on channels, groups or labels, we came across the recent release of the ‘film noir’-netlabel, named ‘cinema: black’. a compilation, with upcoming artists from places all over the world, such as ‘swindail’, ‘froyo ma’ or also our pick for this chap: ‘rage logic’. with his release named ‘zen’, you’re going to expect a trenchant trap instrumental, which provides an imperturbable sound, tenacious kickdrums & a significant melody. alex dowbnia, which is his real name, is an aspiring musician & beatmaker, whose origins are unknown. since a year, he has been put out tunes over tunes over tunes & while enhancing his production skills, we’re pretty sure that this is just the beginning of a career of artistry. being available (as the whole compilation does) as a freebie, you can get your copy of ‘zen’ pretty soon. last tip for this song: play it out on a sound system.

5.Fames – Feels

the last song of the day is from a fellow friend: ‘feels’ by artist ‘fames’. you might recognize ‘fames’ from the previous feature in a former chapter of the ‘flamboyant five’-series, if not, it’s not a drama at all. helgi b helgason, which is his real name, is an electronic, ambient producer from reykjavik, which is the most interesting spot to visit & the capital of the country ‘iceland’. the artist has gained attention since months & made a name for mellifluous compositions in the world of ambient music. and yet again, you get those ‘feels’ in ‘feels’. a sooth piece of production, which truely shows us the potential of ‘fames’. we got in love with the intro, its bold transition to the energetic bassline & flabbergasting melody, which lifts up the song into higher spheres. get those ‘feels’ by pressing play, embrace the moment, press on replay & get this feeling of harmony back again.
